Monday October 20

Tell me about your weekend. Share pics!

Almost all of my weekend was taken up by band. We traveled to St. Louis MO, to compete in the Bands of America Super Regional. This is our biggest competition of the year and we ended up finishing 25th out of around 60 bands. It was great to see all of our hard work pay off. That took up all of Friday and Saturday which only left Sunday. On Sunday I watched lots of football including the Chiefs game. It was a great game and they won 23-20 against the San Diego Chargers. Overall it was a great, fun weekend.

Below is a letter written to the editor who wrote the article 'Enforcement of dress code creates negative effect' that your blogged about last week. Most of you wrote on your blog that you agreed with the writer. What are your thoughts after reading the letter below and seeing a different perspective. Are they the same? Are the different? Do you agree? Disagree? Explain yourself.

This is definitely not the same view point as the article written. They both agree on certain aspects but in the end they disagree on the main point. Personally I am not affected by the dress code to much  but I think there needs to be a middle ground. People should be able to wear whatever they want as long as they aren't just going to ridiculous proportions to go against the dress code. Overall though I think that this article and letter agree on some things.

The classes taught in school are not as helpful in the future as they could be. For example when in life will I need to find the degree of a certain angle? Another is when will I need to know that the net force is equal to the mass times the acceleration? Some classes that would help us in the future would be a curriculum filled with what we actually do in life. One class could teach us about how to spend and save money, stay out or get out of dept, and how banking works. Another could teach us how to live a life at home, for example how to cook and what to eat. The last class we could have is a peoples skills class where they talk about how to interact with others and how to be kind to others. Using these classes, however, would cause a uneducated society and that is why we still need the basic core of classes.

Tuesday October 7

The following article was in the September issue of The Tiger Print. Read the article (even if you already have) and respond to it below. What do you think? Do you agree? Disagree? Consider all perspectives of the article while you respond.
I agree with this article written by Riley Miller on the dress code. In the article she talks about how some of the dress code issues are ridiculous. People shouldn't be forced to wear something different and people should respect others freedom to express themselves however they want. If they want to wear shorts that are shorter or straps that are thinner they should have the right because this is America and that is how we do stuff here. Also she says that occasionally teachers are rude and or disrespectful to students about what they are wearing and that is totally unacceptable. To some degree there needs to be a dress code for ridiculous circumstances and so that people have to actually wear clothes, but for the most part it is unneeded and unnecessary.

Monday October 6

Tell me about your weekend! If you don't have anything fun to share, tell me about the city you live in. What do you love about Kansas City? Do you have a favorite place in the city? Favorite team? :) Favorite event? Explain.

On Friday I watched the KC Royals Game 2 of the ALDS (American League Divisional Series). It was a great game and for the third game in a row they went to extra innings. The score was tied at two until the top of the eleventh when Mike Moustakus hit a solo home-run. they went on to win the game three to two, taking a two to nothing lead in the series. On Saturday I had a band competition in Blue Springs. We did great winning 5a and also wining outstanding soloist, drum majors color guard, percussion, music, and visual. We made finals and got third overall which is our best finish ever. On Sunday I watched the Royals and Chiefs game. The Royals were playing in game 3 of the ALDS and ended up winning and sweeping the LA Angels, moving on to the ALCS (American League Championship Series). They will play the Baltimore Oriels and if the win they will move on to the World Series.
